Timber Bridge Preservation in El Paso, Park & Teller Counties
Project Overview
Starting the week of June 9, the Colorado Department of Transportation will begin preserving 21 rural timber bridges along various US and state highways in El Paso, Park and Teller counties. The purpose of the project is to improve the integrity of the structures and extend their lifespans to ensure the safety of the traveling public. Work consists of making structural reinforcements by adding steel sister beams to timber girders.
Project Schedule
- The project is set to begin on June 9 with anticipated full completion by late November.
- Normal working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, except holidays.
- Construction Schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.
Traffic Impacts
- Single lane closures with traffic shifts and holds will be in place on weekdays at all bridge locations.
- During lane closures, flaggers will be present to manage alternating directions of traffic with traffic holds up to 5 minutes expected.
- Signs, message boards and construction devices will be present to alert motorists to the lane closures and any work zone restrictions.
