Commissioner Dan Williams is a retired US Army Colonel, Apache Pilot and decorated 30-year Combat Veteran with combat deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Albania. His parents lived for many years in Teller County near Florissant. He returned to Teller County after serving his Country and lives with his wife Suzan, a retired US Army Nurse on their ranch near Cripple Creek.
A recognized community and veteran leader, Commissioner Williams has served Teller County in several capacities, including consultant and Planning Director, before being elected as the District 1 County Commissioner. Prior to assuming office, he worked closely with the Board of County Commissioners on the development of the Teller County Strategic Plan and the 2020 Growth Management Plan.
Commissioner Williams is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and holds two master’s degrees, including one from King’s College London. He is also a 2017 graduate of the Leadership Program of the Rockies.
He currently serves on numerous boards and advisory groups, including the 5th and 7th U.S. Congressional District Service Academy Nomination Boards; the Coalition of the Upper South Platte; the Pikes Peak Round Table; the Arkansas Basin Round Table Board; the National Association of Counties Environment, Energy and Land Use Board and Public Lands Board; and the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) organization, where he serves as a board member and executive committee member. He is also affiliated with the Community of Caring at the Aspen Mine Center, the Southern Teller County Focus Group, the Southern Shooting Partnership Board, the Teller County Wildland Fire Council, and the Daybreak Board of Directors.
In addition, Commissioner Williams is a member of VFW Post 6051, Commander of American Legion Post 1980, a member of the Colorado Wildlife Council, and a council member of the El Pomar Foundation representing the Pikes Peak Region. Most recently, he was appointed to the Congressional District 7 Veterans Advisory Board, appointed as a DOLA Regional Planning Roundtable Commissioner in October 2025, and appointed by the Governor to the Colorado Housing Consortium Advisory Council in December 2025.
Commissioner Williams was honored as the 2023 Colorado Counties Commissioner of the Year.
Dan and his wife Suzan have two children and 3 grandchildren.
